The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul

In Blessed Sacrament Parish, our Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) conference members are dedicated to serving neighbours in need in our community, regardless of religion, nationality or church attendance. By listening to their problems and offering assistance and encouragement through home visits, we build relationships with our vulnerable neighbours and help them navigate their lives in any way that we can. For many lonely people, a friend who listens is as important to them as the financial help that they may receive.

During these home visits we provide grocery cards, which are accepted at Loblaws and NoFrills stores. We also distribute food vouchers to those who come to the Rectory on Wednesday mornings. In addition, we may provide clothing, beds, small furniture items and the basics needed in everyday life.

2023 was a challenging year as financial donations decreased while the needs of our neighbours increased. We made almost 450 home visits and helped 110 adults and 174 children in need. We embraced individuals formerly helped by St. Monica’s conference, and assisted John XXIII and St. Margaret’s conferences when their needs outstripped their resources

The most precious gift that we all have is the gift of our time. We always need volunteers to join us in carrying out SSVP work, which is not only important, but fulfilling. If you can join us, please contact Rob Greenaway, President of the Blessed Sacrament SSVP Conference at rob@ssvp.on.ca.
